Have you ever gone on a God Hunt? A God Hunt begins when you teach yourself to look for God’s hand at work in the everyday occurrences of your life. Here’s one of my personal God Hunt Sightings:
There is no way to get around this—if we are to see God work on our behalf in extraordinary ways, we must develop the capacity to spend hours of prayer before His face. Fortunately, He accommodates our incapacities, our prayer incompetencies and evidences Himself in our lives when we are least deserving.
In time, however, we must all grow up spiritually and long extended times of prayer, praise and request and thanksgiving and praise and intercession are part of the discipline we must achieve if we are to see God work in our lives and the lives of those around us in ways that are remarkable.
Not only must we learn to spend hours in prayer, these periods must become times of love-making with our Creator, times when we joyfully enter into his Presence, times when we luxuriate in the fact and are grateful that God has enabled us to give words and groanings and exultations to these extended sessions of prayer.
As much as possible, particularly for those of us who are older, we need to be spending a couple of hours—not necessarily all in one session—each day in prayer. Some saints of God spend more—perhaps this is one of the glories of the elder years. The disciplines of a lifetime are now enabling us to meet with God.
No wonder I am seeing my prayers answered. I am joyfully entering into the season of unusual prayer—this opens the possibility of an unusual season of prayers answered.
“Thou who hast done great things, O God, who is like Thee?” —Psalm 71:18b
I spy God!

Karen continues to write content for her Christian blog, “Thoughts-by-Karen-Mains.” In so doing, she desires to touch the lives of Christian women and men and help them find ways to walk closer with the Lord Jesus Christ. In addition, through silent retreats, spiritual teaching, women’s retreats, Christian vacation opportunities, and other ministry activities, Karen helps each Christian woman and man receive vital spiritual food.
Through her Hungry Souls ministry, Karen serves as a spiritual coach to many Christian women and men, and teaches a mentor-writing class. And, through the Global Bag Project, she is working to develop a network of African women who sew exquisite cloth reusable shopping bags, Africa bags. This micro-finance women opportunity helps provide a much-needed sustainable income for struggling African families. For more information on this critically important project, please click here.
For decades, Karen and her husband, David, have served God through religious communications—radio, television, and print publication. They are the co-authors of the Kingdom Tales Trilogy: Tales of the Kingdom, Tales of the Resistance, and Tales of the Restoration.
